Job Title: Assistant Project Manager – Software Modernization

FTE, Remote – US NY, Tristate Area

Overview

We are seeking a technically fluent Assistant Project Manager to support our ongoing software modernization program. This role reports to the Modernization Project Lead and is ideal for someone with a background in software development or systems architecture who has moved into project management. You will help track activities, manage dependencies, and ensure plans and timelines align with technical realities, while monitoring progress through the full modernization lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Modernization Project Lead with daily execution, tracking, and reporting.
  • Maintain detailed timelines, dependencies, and project plans.
  • Engage in architecture-level discussions (micro frontends, microservices, API integrations, system migrations).
  • Review and understand technical artifacts such as architectural diagrams, system designs, API specs, and code snippets.
  • Translate between engineering details (React, Node.js, CI/CD, Kubernetes) and business requirements.
  • Attend to the end-to-end modernization lifecycle — from source code drop, analysis, transformation, build, testing, deployment, and acceptance.
  • Measure, track, and enhance team velocities at each lifecycle stage to ensure throughput and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate work across engineers, UI/UX designers, DevOps, testers, and customer stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify risks and blockers, escalating when needed.
  • Contribute to Agile ceremonies and ensure consistent team delivery practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of project management or coordination experience in software development projects.
  • Prior technical background (software development, systems engineering, or solution architecture).
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures (microservices, micro frontends, APIs).
  • Familiarity with React, Node.js, Kubernetes, Azure DevOps, and OpenShift at the architecture/code level.
  • Ability to read and understand code-level discussions without hands-on programming.
  • Experience in tracking and improving delivery velocities across multi-stage software pipelines.
  • Excellent organizational, facilitation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in modernization or cloud migration projects.
  • Agile certifications (Scrum Master, PMI-ACP, etc.).
  • Comfort with bridging engineering detail and executive reporting.
